Painful spots in breasts? Normal?

Asked by CunningFox (1397points) July 22nd, 2014

I’ve noticed this for at least a year. Certain areas in my breasts are painful when I push on them. It’s not just during that time of the month or when I’m wearing a bra. I’m 16, should I be worried about this? Thanks.

Yes, it’s normal. No, you should not be worried. Here’s some accurate info about normal discomfort in your breasts at your age.

Your breasts are not only wonderful erogenous zones, but also a complicated and miraculous milk production factory-in-the-making.

Do you see your doctor regularly for checkups? If so, please mention your breast tenderness to your doctor. If you don’t go for annual checkups, it is not unreasonable to make an appointment.

Do you have an adult in your life you can talk to about this? A mother/sister/aunt/grandma/other?

Do you know how to do breast self exams? I hope that you feel your breasts monthly.

Have you ever been fitted for a bra? I wore the wrong size bra until I was in my 30s. Department and maternity stores usually staff someone who has been trained in measuring women for the proper bra size.

While it is usually completely normal to have some breast tenderness or discomfort, or to have a simple cause such as hormonal changes or improperly fitting bras, it is never wrong to discuss your concerns with your doctor.

Dump the bra for a week and see if things change; if they do for the better, you have you culprit.

It is normal to have tenderness while they are developing.

@filmfann Would they still be developing now? I went through puberty at a normal age.

@Cupcake Thanks for the help. I don’t go for regular exams, but I’ll could talk to my mom about this, she’s a nurse.
