What is the basic organizational structure for an independent film production company?

I’m trying to start a production company in California. What would be a common organizational structure for this type of business.

I don’t know that much about the film industry per se, but generally speaking, the first thing I would do is incorporate, to separate (protect) my personal assets from anything having to do with the business. Then I would look at organization. You might want the business and the artistic sides to maintain a firewall (or not).
