What did people wear before shoes were invented?

Footwear made of hides and woven grasses go back pretty far. But barefoot is a perfectly acceptable way to live in the appropriate climes.

Calluses.

Barefoot. Unless I’m going into a store or it’s winter, I’m barefoot. My feet and legs hurt a lot less than when I’m wearing shoes. I think it’s probably because going barefoot requires me to actually walk properly.

HIdes or grasses.

Sandals, moccasins, etc. But footwear or some kind or another goes back tens of thousands of years. Humans are pretty inventive and have been making clothing for ourselves almost before we were doing anything else.

It also depends on where. Sandals popped up in my mind but that was the Mediterranean/Middle East area. Specifically I’m thinking Ancient Rome. Also, if I’m not mistaken, what you wore depended on your class. If you weren’t royalty chances are you weren’t wearing much on your feet.
