How do keep certain programs from starting up automatically when I reboot my computer?

Asked by 2davidc8 (10189points) September 19th, 2014

I have a laptop running Windows 7. IIRC, under earlier versions of Windows there used to be something like a “Startup” group where you could designate programs or applications that you wanted started up automatically upon reboot. If you did not want it to start automatically, you could delete it from the list.
However, I do not see where I can do this in Windows 7. Can anyone help?

Here is a site that tells you a number of ways you can do this.

start button > type “msconfig” into the search field and hit enter.
In the following window, go to the startup tab and uncheck all the programs you do not want to launch after boot.

Be careful tho!

@Earthbound_Misfit @ragingloli Thank you for the tips. I managed to stop the one program that I wanted to keep from starting. I’ll need to do a bit more research on the others.
@Dutchess_III Yes, this could get tricky. Thanks.

Don’t want to delete the wrong thing, like I did!

I use Soluto to manage my booting time. Might want to look into using that for managing startup programs.
