What is your favorite charity?

You’ll see I posted about Kiva just recently. I too love Kiva. It’s my favourite charity.

However, I also give to World Vision. I sponsor a few children.

Other than that, I give to things like Get_Up, Avaaz and the like if they’re running a campaign I believe in.

I also like to donate to the Fred Hollows Foundation and the Fistula Foundation.

I donate to Hospice, the Foundation that supports our city’s performing arts theater, and the University, which I am an alumnus.

My favorite is our local animal shelter. They are no kill, and we have adopted two wonderful cats from them.

I don’t have a favorite – there are a number of charities that I support:

- American Civil Liberties Union
– Electronic Frontier Foundation
– American heart Assoc.

Doctors without Borders
The Heifer Project
Our local Humane Society/Animal Shelter
Memorial funds for family members set up by family.
Local volunteer EMTS, firemen and ambulances.

I always give money to my own church on a weekly basis.
Other than that I give to The Salvation Army. Never to The Red Cross.

I give to the Heifer Project every year at this time. This is my favorite charity.

Also, support the ACLU, Doctors without Borders, Planned Parenthood, The Southern Poverty Law Center (anti-hate groups) and several environmental and land preservation groups.

The salvation army discriminates against the LGBT community, I never give to them and resent the bell ringers that block every doorway. My community is over run with SA bell ringers right now. Blatant pandering for charity is a turn off IMO, we are all free to choose who. what and when we give. Funny thing too, the other day there was a homeless person sitting about 15 yards away from a bell ringer with a sign looking for work and food, did the bell ringer dip into their pot for that poor person.

No. The irony.

This year, I also have given to the Heifer Project, And I like to donate to St. Jude’s every year.

I also will donate to groups who do a lot of good in the community, even if they are run by religious organizations that are not inclusive in their doctrines, as I feel that more are helped than hurt by that.

@janbb Yes, it is, I have donated before but can only choose one charity this year.
My good friend is such a darling, he just ordered an expensive Elf costume and is going to a childrens hospital this week to be an Elf. A 6’2 Elf. haha
His company is donating their video equipment to do video interviews with Santa in the childrens ward. So cute. :-)

I like to buy gifts through Oxfam. There are family members who really don’t need anything so giving chickens to a family in a third world country makes more sense than giving them a present they’ll shove on a shelf and never use.

Just FYI, whatever your stance on the Salvation Army, the buckets have not been accessible to the bell-ringers for a number of years. They now have locked lids with slots for donations. If the buckets are open, it is probably not a legitimate Salvation Army collection bucket, and may be a scam.

@canidmajor True, but the bell ringers pockets are not locked. haha
I just find such irony in a bell ringer ringing 20 feet away from a begging poor person.

@Coloma, you can’t possibly know if they did or didn’t unless you stood by and watched both of them the entire time. I imagine that your donation helped out, though. :-)

Nothing sadder than someone begging outside a grocery store when I have plenty.
