Why isn't iTunes burning my playlists to CDs?
I’m getting an error saying “The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4450).”
I don’t know what to do. I thought at first it was because of the new iTunes update so I went and did that but it still has this error. I even turned off and on my computer to install Windows updates thinking that might have something to do with it.
My computer reads the disc fine as a completely empty disc. When I ask iTunes to burn the playlist onto the disc, it starts up and begins burning the first song but then cancels right away.
I also tried using other empty discs. Still doesn’t work.

A lot of people are complaining about this problem on various forums. Lots of solutions suggested (driver updates, iTunes updates, shutting off other power-hungry applications), but the only ones that seem to have worked are:
- reduce your burning speed
- make the playlist gapless (no space between songs)
Both ideas suggested here. I don’t know which tweak did the trick.
Alternatively, use a different CD burner to get the job done.

So before this issue happened I changed the gap between songs from none to 1 second. Then this issue happened. But I HAVE done other seconds before. Regardless, I switched back to none, and then also tried lowering the speed. It started doing it but was now stuck on the first song and stayed stuck for several minutes until it gave up or I had to cancel.
I tried again doing the default settings I usually do, which is maximum speed and no gap between songs. Now I’m getting this message:
“The attempt to burn a disc has failed. You might be able to burn discs without calibrating them first.”
And then it gives me an option to check off and say “Don’t calibrate discs before burning.”
It doesn’t make me feel any better about what’s going on. . .it’s ironic how the computer itself is like “I dunno dude, try this.”

OH WAIT
That did it. It’s burning now. I had to check the box that came up saying not to calibrate the disc.
Huh. . . weird. Wonder how that happened.
