Are expired TUMS "safe"?

Unknowingly, I ate hard, chewable (ones that you chew and swallow) TUMS that expired in April 2013. I only ate one, but I don’t know if it will harm me. Does anyone know?

I’ve eaten really old ones and they never bothered me. They might absorb some moisture in a humid climate but that’s about it that I know of. Don’t sweat it.

My boyfriend did that not too long ago and he’s still alive, so I’m sure it will be fine.
No, nothing will happen to you. The only thing is that they may be ineffective, that is all.
I would not worry for a second. You might as well trash the remaining ones since they are so old, but if you already ate some don’t think twice about.

Tums is nothing but calcium carbonate. This is a very stable compound. It should be good and effective indefinitely.
A nurse told me once that medications will lose a small percentage of effectiveness when they’re old but they should still work. As for your TUMS harming you, the expiration date is for sales purposes only. Don’t worry about it.
Should be fine. May taste a bit stale.
Funny you should ask! I tossed a raft of 2012 antacid chewables just this past weekend after accidentally eating one. They were probably okay ‘cause I’m here to tell the tale, but I always obey date stamps on meds and milk (even though in my heart of hearts I don’t always believe them).
I also never tear tags off pillows.
