How does clicking on the reload button more than once speed up Internet searching?

There are things called “Load-balancers”. They basically take incoming requests and their main job is to randomly assign your request to another server that does the actual searching.

So for something like Fluther you have:

load balancer
-Apache Server
-Apache Server
—Mysql server

Load balancer randomly assigns a page request to one of the Apache servers. Apache server gets data from the mySQL server and builds the page that apache sends to your browser.

But to answer your question. The load balancer probably sent your request to a server with less load. The same thing happens on fluther too.

I’m not sure that’s true. OK, so it seems that way but when you click on something, you turn something on. Clicking on it twice or three times doesn’t turn it on on or on on on.

Normally clicking more than once will not make searching any faster than when you click once. Maybe you got lucky in that the load balancer sent your (additional) request to the server with less load.

What you’re doing is called “hammering” and it’s considered extremely rude. It’s the equivalent of walking up to a busy deli counter and dinging the “ring for service” bell over and over, non-stop, until someone serves you. As others have said, what you’re doing is flinging multiple page requests at the server at the precise time it’s under heaviest load. You may end up getting faster service, but at the expense of slowing it down for everyone else. And if everyone does it, then everyone gets much worse service.
