from a public health perspective it is probably the best thing that could happen to Russia.

After the shit the russian hooligans pulled in france, yes.

Darth_Algar's avatar

Why should they?

imrainmaker's avatar

Russian athletes are currently suspended due to doping charges. Russia has threatened to pull out if ban is not lifted.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

If they are truly guilty of the doping charge then yes, ANY country should be banned if found guilty of such charge.

I think that all Russian athletes that were caught breaking the anti-doping rules should be suspended for a couple years of world class competition. But let the Russian athletes that have done no wrong compete in the Rio Olympics.

No. I think it’s a perfectly acceptable use of your spies to break into drug testing labs in the middle of the night to swap urine samples from your athletes so that no one detects the massive amounts performance enhancing drugs you’ve been giving them.

The Patriots have 4 rings from cheating. Russia was just following their example.

The Olympic Games are such a collection of fiascos and scandals that they should be abolished entirely. In the beginning, wars would be postponed during the games. In modern games, they have provided duplicate games for each side (German games during WW2). Now the games themselves are venues for battles. This is a disgrace.

@imrainmaker “Russian athletes are currently suspended due to doping charges.”

Oh, well in that case I don’t care.

The Olympics should be banned from Rio. It sounds like multiple disasters waiting to happen.

ragingloli's avatar

@janbb
Afterwards they will rename the city to Rio de Sangue

janbb's avatar

@ragingloli Or perhaps, just Rio de Merde?

Rio de Zika? Rio de Caca?

imrainmaker's avatar

Is that a possibility if other athletes also start withdrawing like many tennis players / golfers have done?

Pachy's avatar

Based on the dire Zika warnings and crime stats I’ve read, I think its Rio that should be banned.

I would say Brazil should be banned from the Olympics for its human rights abuses, but the IOC doesn’t particularly give a shit about that.
