Do you ever become overwhelmed by too much noise?

Is this a form of introversion or something else?

Yes. Look up Sensory Processing Disorder.

It explains a lot in my life. I’m normal in most respects, but I can’t handle very loud noises, strong vibrations, cigarette smoke, or most perfumes. It’s not fun.

I can handle loud noises but I don’t prefer them. I don’t prefer loud restaurants, for example.

Yes. I can’t stand to hear noise in my home all day. My husband can watch tv for hours on the weekend. I use to like listening to music but now I really like a silent home. No tv, no nothing. I even turn the volume down on my computer. I’m not like that all the time but I need a couple of hours each day of no noise.
There are some sounds I really do enjoy. I like to hear the sounds from outside. Cars passing, birds singing, wind rustling the leaves or waves on a beach, or rain. I could listen to these sounds all day.

I’m very introverted and I’m very loud sounds sensitive. I suppose that there could be a connection. My doctor tells me that I have an anxiety problem but I refuse to take the “Lorazepam” that he’s offered to me. I deal with it without drugs.

I never go to a concert, play, plane flight or movie without ear plugs. I wear them to sleep and operate power tools. Some people talk too loud for my comfort.

I don’t think of it as introversion as much as it is sensory overload.

The company I work for has an open office plan in New York. While visiting there last month I was working on a document when I realized I couldn’t concentrate because it was so loud from so many people talking.. I looked around, and a lot of people had headphones on to cut down the distraction.

I don’t like to hear engines idling at night, or leaf blowers any time.

I have tinnitus and hear crickets 100% of the time; it’s just a matter of how loud they are. When the crickets are loud most other noise is irritating to me.

I like silence too and I’m an extrovert. I do listen to music in my car but otherwise I like the sound of silence and nature best. I put on nature sound CD’s at bedtime or soothing instrumental music. The loudest sound over here are the horses pawing their gates when they want to be fed and banging their grain buckets on the fence. Drives me nuts sometimes, bang, bang, bang! haha

I’m a near hermit and appreciate silence a lot, though I don’t mine the noise. Here where I live, it can get real noisy at summer. You can hear giant trucks and tractors passing by all the time, and loud kids playing outside, and animals. I don’t mind that. Sometimes I listen to loud music and i like it. I can shut it down when I get bored with it.
The only type of noise I don’t like is listening to people arguing and shouting at each other, or sounds of people fighting, or kids crying when they get beaten up. Sounds that imply some sort of violence are the only sounds I really don’t like. As for any other noise, I don’t care much. If it really gets on my nerves, I just move away from that place and go somewhere more quiet.
