Disclaimer: I’m a designer.
Look around for startups or design firms in the area; do searches online. See if any of them are hiring and contact them.
What I highly recommend you doing is:
– Apply for a membership on Forrst (I actually have some invites so if you’re interested PM me your portfolio and I’ll see what I can do). It’s a great community that will connect you with some amazing people in the design world, as well as the development world.
– Make a Twitter account (if you don’t already have one) and follow some designers. E.g. Jason Santa Maria, Dan Cederholm, Meagan Fisher, etc. They’re always tweeting about design, and even about places that are hiring all over.
– Try and get your hands on a Dribbble invite.
By doing the above things, you’ll submerge yourself into the world of the online design community, which is a great thing for many reasons. You’ll make tons of friends who will be able to help you out with many different things. They might even be able to help you find a job.
The great thing about being a designer is that you can find tons of jobs where you can work remotely from home. So don’t just limit yourself to Central Florida. If you’re good enough you will be able to find plenty of people who will hire you and not mind you working remotely.
Make sure you have a strong portfolio because that is what they’ll be looking for.
Hope this helps! Good luck :)
