Like waitresses, doormen, taxi drivers. Do people actually like those types of jobs?

I do. Tips are awesome. If I could make a respectable living doing my old job (which I received tips for), I would totally do it.

Unexpected tips are always nice. Can’t say I’m crazy about the jobs were they’re part of the pay.

My fiance loved working at a golf course. The only other friends I have known that got tips were waitresses, and they all hated their jobs.

I meant the actual job itself, and not necessarily the pay.

@Aesthetic_Mess yes, I loved the job.

All I know is most of the guys working the cab stand at Vegas hotels HAVE to love their jobs! As I waited in line for a cab at Ceasers Palace, I watched the guy unload and load about a cab a minute and got tips from the people getting out and the people getting in. Even at just a buck each that’s over $100 per hour. I’m sure he averaged much more than that!

A friend of mine is a bartender and she said her job is great, except for all the cheap, drunk people ;)

@lucillelucillelucille My favorite bartender has a Master’s in education, bartending pays better.

The people who like to create an experience for other people do. For example, hotel van drivers. A guest arrives at an airport and uses the courtesy phone to arrange to be picked up. The van driver arrives.

They have two options: 1.) do the job, and get the guest to the hotel; or 2.) greet the guest by name (obtained from the hotel operator), offer a cold beverage (ever been in one that has a cooler?), inquires about their flight, asks if they have ever stayed at the hotel before, and provides hotel and local information if they haven’t.

It’s the same in any tipping job. The ones that get personal gratification from helping others are the ones that realize it isn’t about the tasks,,,it’s about other people.

Bingo workers always go home with a smile on their faces.

Most bingo halls are run by charity organizations. they claim the workers are just volunteers, but all of us know better. would you drive, say 20 miles each day, and work for free? none of us would. ok, they are paid….....somehow.

The biggest advantage for bingo workers are the tips. when a bingo player wins, 98% of the time, the bingo worker receives a very nice tip. i once saw a worker receive a $100 tip from the bingo player that won the $1,000 coveral.

Tips pay nice, IF you are also on a regular salary. it’s like icing on a cake.

Back to tip related answers. I’m trying to cut down on hijacking threads.

I think it probably depends on where they work. Some restaurants are family style, and probably the tips are very poor, and there are other jobs that bring in huge tips.

It depends in part on whether you like dealing with people (I generally don’t) and partly on whether the job in question is one that has decent tips. A waitress earning minimum wage getting tipped pocket change by rude customers will not enjoy their job whereas a waitress in a more upscale/upbeat place that rakes in $100+ a day in tips may be happier and somebody dealing with great people and/or raking in $500+/day in tips may love their job.
