There could be an issue with renting a room with a debit card because when you make a reservation and give the number of the card to a reservations clerk or on the internet, the hotel will “block’ part of your credit limit on the card in order to make sure that there are funds available on the card when the actual charge is put through. In other words, and this is usually true for credit cards, the hotel estimates your total bill at say $200, and their computer system will put a block on or “reserve” $300 of your funds in order to guarantee that the account is not drained during your stay.
Debit card procedures are not quite the same as credit card procedures so there is a good chance that my comments are not spot on, but I should be in the ballpark on what might happen.
