haha. I’ve asked this question before. @janbb is right. It’s a good life lesson. I’ve actually grown to lurve a few people I once wished I could block. ;)
I wrote a greasemonkey script that does this. But it is buggy as fuck and I am not willing to make it public. Apparently a official solution is coming. But you might be waiting for a long time.
With moderation, why would you need to block someone? Unless you are being bothered in PMs, in which case the moderators can be invoked there, as well.
I agree. As much as I truly despise some of the fundamentalist vomit some members spew, I would be cheating myself of the full Fluther experience if I blocked them.
@erichw1504 Welcome to Fluther! Oh, wait, it seems you have been here a while. hmm…
I just skip some people’s answers that I don’t care to read, and usually never read their questions. But really, there are very few that I feel that way about and maybe a couple that I did, but changed my mind on.
If someone is harassing you via PMs you can report it to mods and they will take care of it. If it is just matter of you having to deal with comments from other users that you don’t like then you have a number of options: if you believe the comment violates fluther guidelines you can flag it and the mods will evaluate it and if the comment does violate guidelines they will remove it, you can respond to the comment with a counterpoint and/or a well reasoned argument and hope for the best, you can mutter obscenities under your breath about what an idiot and a moron that user is (thats one of my favorite “buttons”) or you can ignore it. You are basically your own ignore button. Each and every one of us has an equal right to say what we want and to be a moron as long as it doesn’t violate the site’s guidelines.
I’m starting to hope for this. It seems many are more interested in attacking the person asking the questions and calling them liars rather than directly answering the questions themselves in a respectful way. I don’t have a problem with certain users who have an opposing viewpoint than mine but there are many on here who are extremely disrespectful so yes it would be nice to block a certain user from answering certain questions but I think this option should only be in the hands of people who are asking the questions themselves.
I have just been blocked by someon on another site and it is very painful. I would rather not see it instituted here although I can understand its uses.
Who the heck in their right mind would block a sweet little penguin? Happy to say that this user follows that user^^ to the ends of the earth, or at least all through Fluther.
