One possible solution. Open iTunes. Under the settings/preferences panel – click on the ‘Devices’ tab. Make sure the box is unchecked for “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.”

Yes, I did have a look at that before.. That box has always been unchecked.
