so I want to simply (xy)/(xz) to get y/z but the ti-89 doesn’t seem to do it from the off, how can I get it to rearrange it?

I am not entirely sure as I am an HP 48-series guy myself.

However, I think that your little TI might be unable to interpret (xy) as the equivalent of (x * y) so it might consider the equation you type as only having two terms (xy and xz) instead of three (x, y, and z) in combination that include a multiplication symbol between the terms.

Try (x * y) / (x * z) and see if it does something different.
