Why did the sunlight affect my TV remote earlier today?

I was sitting on the couch, trying to watch TV, and the stupid remote wasn’t doing anything. Very frustrating. I hit it. I hit the TV. I changed the batteries. I changed the batteries back. I did everything I could think of. Turns out, the sun was shining on the VCR, and that was some how affecting it. Why? Anybody else heard of this?

Infra Red from the Sun overpowered your remote.

The reflection of the sun on the little sensor that “receives” the signal from the remote….
Never mind. What @Tropical_Willie said.

@JilltheTooth The receiver can’t “see” the remote because it was overpowered therefore cannot see the remote flash off and on.

Yeah, I know, but your explanation was much shorter and more to the point than my long-winded one would have been.
