Other than flavored olive oil, what can be put into a glass bottle as a gift?

I bought one of these glass bottles as a gift for someone and would like to put something in it. Other than an olive oil concoction, what can I fill the bottle with? Ideally it would be something that could be easily removed or cleaned so the bottle can then be used for another purpose.

Or, should I leave the bottle empty?

Very cool bottles. Maybe some specialty maple syrup or the like?

Bubble bath, vinaigrette, wine, that’s all I got.

Oooooo.. I have a thing for pretty bottles. Those are nice!

You could make some limoncino, it’s pretty darn easy and pretty special, since it’s not something you can buy everywhere.

Flavored vinegars are better than oils. No chance of botulism.

What about bath salts? Is your bottle coloured like those ones? You could put alternating colours of salts in to make a pretty pattern.
You could also fill it with little candies, depending on the size of the bottle’s mouth. Or powdered hot chocolate mix, or brownie mix or something like that, with instructions tied to the bottle.

Scotch!

Barring that, and herbed vinegar is nice.

I make herb vinegar- really easy and tasty. Take a big glass jar and stuff it full of fresh herbs, then pour vinegar over them- your choice of vinegar- and let it steep. Filter and bottle. You can add a sprig or two of fresh herbs to the bottle for decoration. Chiles and garlic work well for this too.

Home-made liqueur?!?!?!

The bottle is pretty big, like the size of a wine bottle. It holds 34 ounces. It’s one of the bottles I linked to (the orange one). I wish I’d gotten two, because it is really cute!

Thanks for the suggestions! I didn’t think of vinegar, but that sounds like a great idea. I’m also tempted to fill the bottle with M&Ms!

JilltheTooth's avatar

Yes! M&Ms! Do that!

M&M’s would be my dream gift! Really! PM me if you need my home address. :-)

You can fill my bottle with M&M’s any time!

I once bought a large blue plastic container that was a promotional item for Viagra on Ebay. I then filled it with green M&Ms and gave it to my husband, who displayed it proudly on his desk :>)

My husband also voted for the M&M idea, but next year I am going to find slightly smaller bottles to make flavored vinegar and limoncino. Both of those would be big hits with several family members. :)

Small glass pebbles or small polished stones. You can get them at Michael’s.

I would choose the small clear iridescent ones. And if this item were mine, I might even leave them inside and put the bottle on a windowsill.

Home made kahlua like this

MissAusten's avatar

@Kardamom WOW that looks incredible!! I had no idea kahlua could be made at home. If it didn’t have to age for a month, I would start making it tomorrow. So, next year everyone is getting kahlua, lemoncello, and herb vinegar. We can all get drunk and eat salad!
