Anyone else have an eye freckle (choroidal nevus)? I do. Why do we have them?

If you look at my avatar pic, you’ll see a dark spot on my iris. It’s an “eye freckle”. My Mom had it, as well, and my one Aunt has it.

I have a darker patch on the white of my eye, which might be completely unrelated to your eye freckle. It’s a sort of rust colour, and it’s about the same size.

I have a few… my eyes are brown but there are a whole bunch of darker ‘specks’ in them!

Freckles are just a little mass of pigmentation in tissue/. Usually it’s in skin tissue, but not always. I just went to the ophthalmologist and she said my eyes were just fine; followed by a little smile and the announcement that I had a freckle in my eye. I decided that if she wasn’t worried, I wouldn’t be either. Then she had a picture taken of it (to check at a later date?). If there are changes in the freckle, THEN I will worry . . . a lot!

Wow- I never knew what it was called!
I don’t have a freckle but, I have a horseshoe.
My eyes are green and I have a brown “horseshoe” in my iris. I always said it meant I was good luck…

I have two holes in my right eye. I had a worm in my head as a child and the worm luckily ate AROUND and not through my ocular nerve. Many weird conversations about that….

@Samantha_Rae When I was young, me and my mom (she has like 9 holes) went to see the optometrist for our annual eye exam. The doctor said I had 2 possible glanule’s in my eye (possible cancer signs). Having a bad parent, she did nothing. More than 10 years later, while going through the same test, but with a eye dilation, they were able to see that the 2 spots weren’t glanules, but tunnels. The 2 spots were actually connected, and had “eat marks”. After sitting there for 3 more painful hours of having a light blazed in one eye, they finally found out that the path was attempting to go towards my ocular nerve (main eye nerve), which is a main sign of a worm. Since the worm has since been waaaay dead, they don’t know what type of worm or parasite I had, but I narrowly avoided blindness in my right eye. Still today I have problems with the nerve, but my vision in my eye is stable still so no worries… :)

@Moegitto: how does one go about getting worms in their head? And where did it go? I don’t know if I really want to know the answer to this

@Samantha_Rae Don’t know for question number 1 and don’t know for question number 2. Just lucky I’m not blind in one eye.
