How can I run electronics in the cold, snowy outdoors?

I host a football game in the snow every year. Each year, I set up a boombox running on batteries to play music during the game, but the last several years the cold has sapped the life out of the batteries before the game began. Do you have any suggestions on how to either keep the batteries warm or an alternate idea to provide music to a remote field?

So long as you keep everything dry, the electronics LOVES the cold.

You want fresh batteries, for starters. Look around for high-performance C and D cells. Don’t get the rechargeable ones.

Alternately, you can either play music out of your car via door panel speakers (leave it running!) or run an extension cord out from an AC power supply – house, generator, or power inverter (that you plug into the cigarette lighter in your car. Check the truck stops).

I don’t think that it’s a matter of keeping the batteries warm.

It could also be the boombox.

You could get an adapter for your car, run the car and plug in the boombox. You should be able to find these at Radio Shack. I bought one at Big Lots a few years ago, and use it when camping to run the air mattress pump.

Well it depends, if it’s waterproof then you can run it wherever, but if it’s not then put a tent over it or something. Easy.
