Hee Hee Hee. Sweet silence. I have three boys so anytime I am in the car by myself (which is rare), I enjoy the total peace that I don’t get normally anywhere!
Normally, I agree @uberbatman. When I was younger, I always had something on the radio (but that time seems so long ago, I don’t remember who I gave the most time too). Now – I need to rest my ear drums. Johnny, my oldest, always burns a cd from itunes and plops it in when he is travelling with me so I am learning the lyrics to Sublime, Slipnot System of a Down, and God knows who else. My husbands slaps in 70’s music and tosses in the Beatles for good measure. Sigh! I’ve been overthrown as the dictator of my own car.
When its a nice day out, maybe some Jack Johnson or John Butler Trio. But when its night time andim driving in the city, I like to listen to Rage Against The Machine, Moby, or Common Market
For 2-hour + trips, I like “landscape” music, like do be say think, LTJ Bukem, explosions in the sky, or Radiohead…it lets my mind loosen up and think through all my issues. By the end of the drive I feel like I came out of some crazy psychotherapy session…in my head.
I don’t know why, but I just get so much into rap when I am driving, like…eazy e, Geto Boys, Dr. Dre, Mac Dre, Too Short, etc…...I don’t know, just puts me into a good mood.
But there are time when I want to chill and just listen to soothing music like Bob Marley, or Kings of Convenience…
I would start out with Lost Highway – Bon Jovi, or something by Journey…but, there’s a ghost in the car stereo that makes any tape, cd or iPod become Queen’s greatest hits after about 20 mind….
I’ve tried other music, but found Linkin Park made me speed and Avril makes me want to run red lights, so I play it safe ;)
I like some Brand New, The Academy Is…, Coheed And Cambria, Dashboard Confessional, Cute Is What We Aim For, Escape The Fate, Flogging Molly, The Killers, Say Anything, Paramore, Senses Fail, Silverstien, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, Shiny Toy Guns, Straylight Run, Reggie And The Full Effect, and the list goes on and on. Basically I listen to the same bands in the car, as I listen to outside the car.
@thehaight…wow I didn’t know anyone still listened to easy e except me at times..lol thats funny..
I love anything fast for it makes me feel and dream as if I’m in a racecar, esp times when I’m just out riding around by myself. however saying that, I ts not like I’m driving in a racecar or speeding as if I’m in one. I just usually pretend . call it my child’s imagination coming back for a little bit.
everything randy said minus: coheed and cambria and shiny toy guns.
adding: jack johnson, the spill canvas, the honorary title, the rocket summer, and britney spears.
I spend a lot of time driving around the South Island of New Zealand where the countryside is very dramatic and lonesome, so Gillian Welsh or Lucinda Williams are often on the CD player; especially if the weather is dark and gloomy; if it’s sunny then something more Old-Timey and perky like Flatt & Scruggs, Spade Cooley or the Balfa Brothers.
Cant live without my Sirius radio! If there is nothing on there (once in a blue moon) then I pop in a Linkin park, Foo Fighters, Van Halen, Aerosmith or Kiss CD.
