I have used yelp to find various craftsmen in different cities I am visiting (fixing of I-phone and a cobbler) and it has been excellent help. Also, it is useful for restaurant reviews. Have not used the talk feature.

I use yelp only and always when I travel to another city to find good food. Hasn’t let me down yet.

I don’t use the location-based services of Yelp (the whole technology disturbs me, I must be getting old), but I regularly visit Yelp on the web and via their iphone app to read and write reviews of businesses. I’m just not interested in doing that in real-time.

I gave a rave to a restaurant which has been totally reliable in its excellence. Also used it to check out unknown restaurants. The problem is that food is something that has very personal reactions and Yelp doesn’t give you the feeling that you can tell what the reality would be for YOU. Example: Two different critics, each purporting to be Chinese and therefore knowledgeable, gave totally opposite opinions on the “authenticity” of the food at the same Chinese Buffet restaurant. Guess I’ll go with an Italian place I know.
