First, if you keep losing it, odds are good that you’re doing it deliberately, if unconsciously. As Freud famously wrote, there are no accidents. Is there some reason you really don’t want to have this thing? Perhaps you should try putting it away for a little while and seeing if it makes you any happier.
But if you want a way to find it when you’ve lost it, I recommend taking advantage of the same phenomenon which caused you to lose it: your own unconscious processes. Close your eyes, think of the object, reach out your arm, and just wander randomly without trying to think about what you’re doing or where you’re going. It may take a minute or two, but you should eventually be led directly to the spot where you left it. This process works for anything you’ve lost, incidentally, so you can do the same thing for missing keys, wallets, babies, etc.
