How can I tell if someone is using my wifi for internet access?

Is there a way for me to detect if someone is using my wifi to get on the internet?
Right now my network is unsecured; how hard is it to add a security feature or password? (I am new at this).
Even if I am password protected…is there a way for my bandwidth to be used or hacked without the password?
Thanks again, Fluther!

It’s not terribly difficult to secure your network; the router most likely came with instructions.
Heavy traffic will reduce the overall speed of your connection. If you’ve noticed performance lagging lately, you may have yourself a freeloader.

It’s not hard at all to add security. The instructions will be with the documentation of your router.

A lot of times you can access your router through your browser (e.g. going to http://192.168.0.1) and see which devices are using it.

Yes there are ways to hack your password/encryption. Make sure your security is set to WPA or WPA2 (prefferably WPA2) and you should be safe against the occasional hacker.
