Can you help me understand this Daily Show joke?

“Great Question” (2points)

It was in the part called Run RNC, and it was at 4:30 or so. It’s where “Michael Steele”, well, the puppet, talks about his successor Reince Priebus (hopefully I spelled that right).

Anyway, do you get the joke he says at around 4:30?

It was a reference to the movie, Nell in which Jodie Foster plays a girl that spoke a language no one else spoke because the only person she ever had contact with (her mother) spoke with some sort of wild speech impediment that I can’t remember.

You mean about Jodie Foster’s character in Nell? Well,
Damn it, Ken.

In the movie she drops certain letters, it was a form of twin speak she had with her then dead sister.

@kenmc : Oh, okay.
@asmonet : Aw, it’s okay. I still gave you lurve.

If you want an example of what Nell sounded like, here is a video of Ellen impersonating the character (really well albeit with a humorous bent). It’s Ellen doing some of her important lines and stuff.

So, when the dude’s name is compared to that gibberish, well. You get it. TAY INA WIIIIIIIN.

Also, :P

Reince Priebus is already funny enough.

I think Nell’s mother had had a stroke that impaired her speech, and Nell’s language was an imitation of hers.

@seazen, I know, didn’t Caesar Augustus steal his wife? :snerk!::

@Jeruba @asmonet Both are correct, it was a type of twin speech corrupted by the fact the the mother had a stroke impaired speech impediment
