Can anyone explain how Google Reader deals with podcasts?

Are these saved on my hard drive and if so where, or are they held in cyberspace by Google?

I wasn’t aware that Google Reader has a podcast catcher.

They aren’t downloaded, RSS feeds usually just give you a direct link to the podcast episode to download.
