1) Because its not really a company anymore.
2) It’s run by absolutely no one. (unless you count the mods) lol
3) There are no ads
4) Most questions are answered within 5–10 minutes after posting
5) You get prize titles for solving and completing adventure riddles
6) You’re more likely to make friends and contribute to meaningful discussions than simply “get an answer”

Well, there’s the technical side: You ask a question, we send it to people who might know the answer. Answers come in real time, so it’s more like a discussion.

Then, there’s the human side: A great community, human moderators that eliminate spam, personal attacks, and txtspk.

We have awards! (except they aren’t working now).
We have lurve! And jellies!
We have cake in the frizzer! (Good luck finding it.)

Now that I think of it, I’m not sure why it works. It certainly has nothing to do with selectivity, since they’ve let me stay for over a year now. As I ponder it more, I’m not sure that it does work.

It’s different because it’s well-moderated which keeps out the rubbish questions and answers like you see in other Q&A sites. I also feel that the average Fluther user is older (or at least more mature and intelligent) than the average user of other sites. People here are more likely to hold conversations and get involved in discussions, and there are some truly wonderful people here. Especially @augustlan, who is doing a wonderful job of holding the place together.
