So..why isn't anyone giving Chauncey Billups any recognition here?

“Great Question” (2points)

The New York Knicks just traded for, and got, Carmelo Anthony. This gives them two bona fide all-stars, Amare Stoudemire being the other. But they also got Chauncey Billups. Here’s just a taste of his credentials:

5x All-Star
NBA CHAMPION
NBA Finals MVP
2x All-NBA Defensive 2nd Team

He’s older now yes, but he’s still got plenty of game, plus a ton of experience and know-how. Not to mention he’s averaging close to 17 points and 5 assists a game this season. This gives the Knicks a legit “Big 3” but no one is giving Chauncey that kind of respect. WHY???

Who???

He should get respect. By the way, I live in Denver, was fairly unimpressed by the 4 games I went to so far this season, but now have zero interest in seeing them. Tonight they are playing with only 7 guys.

He was too much of a ‘me’ guy in his first couple seasons. That and he kept forcing trades because he didn’t like the teams he was on.

In other words, he was like most decent NBA players? Allen Iverson and Sprewell come to mind.

I believe he may also have gotten on the wrong side of Berman from ESPN early in his career.

How so? I don’t know this story.

I asked the same question CBrennan. Billups is a very good player so when I heard the news I was automatically excited about another above average player coming along for the ride in NYC.

It may not have been Berman, but when he played for the wolves he got a rep with the local media as a selfish prima dona. I think he has outgrown that, but the label is still hanging on him like an albatross.

He may have had a bad rep in the past, but I feel like he shed that when he played for the pistons and made all those runs to the finals.

The fact is, he’s a top 10 point guard in the league. He’s now on a team with not only two of the best pure scorers in the league, but Amare and Carmelo are also top 3 at their respective positions in the league. How does this not warrant the “Big 3” title that some other teams get?

Maybe next season. They’ll probably do some cool stuff for the rest of this year though.

I agree with you that he has moved past it @CBrennan15, but there are some folks in the media that hold grudges. You asked why he isn’t getting the recognition, I gave you my views.

The fact that and he has not been playing in New York, Boston, Chicago or LA may have hurt him too.

Hell, I hold grudges. I’ll always think John Elway and Eli Manning were assholes for the way they forced a trade when drafted on their first team. And I’m never going to forgive Favre for becoming a Viking and beating the Pack at Lambeau in 2009.

I wouldn’t even know a Chauncey Billups if I tripped over one. I was clueless about most of the question too.

Thank goodness for tagging. I think I’ve seen some basketball on late night TV, it looks like netball for men iirc.
