Often ‘Roman’ simply refers to the normal variant of a typefont.
A font’s ‘roman’ form is the most like printing, whereas a font’s ‘italic’ form is more like script [slanted and curvier].

Latin letters and Roman letters generally refer to the same thing, although it is possible that “Roman” refers to a more finalized version.
