Because there’s almost 4 times as much in a 2 litre?

I actually find the other way around is true.

EDIT: I think it’s convenience. People buying a 20oz want it now. It’s hard to find a cold 2liter and harder to get it to fit in the cup holder. :)

Oops I made a big typo @Taciturnu thanks

67.6 ounces in 2 liters.

@Taciturnu: I agree with you. Convenience. There is a lot of thought to those coolers, candy bars, magazines and other quick convenience items near the registers. (small pack of q-tips that have say, 30 in them – same price -just about as the ones on the aisle.) You get there and see it and want it right at that moment.

There is always a price for convenience, at least in a store!

The packaging costs more than the product.

@cak It’s a little shocking society still gives in to the marketing gimmicks, isn’t it? @jerv has a very good point, though.

@Taciturnu: It is. I remember learning a lot of the tricks in a marketing class. I can’t say I’m immune, but I really try to resist.

@jerv is onto the rest of the story.

@Seelix I think the question is why a 20oz soda cost about 70–80% of a 2 ltr. when there is 4 times as much in the 2 ltr? Seems to me you pay more per oz with the 20oz.

There’s a lot more in 2 liters than in 20oz. But in the UK I find that a 2l bottle is only slightly more expensive than the 500ml size (our nearest equivalent to 20oz). The 2l is definitely better value.

In Australia a 600ml bottle in the cooler is anywhere from $3.80 to $4.50. But in the grocery store you can buy a 2l bottle for under $3.00. Of course it is not cooled. I am looking for a place to buy a case of 600ml bottles that I can take home and put in my own fridge, but it seems as if no one sells them any way except individually. Guess it is some sort of marketing ploy/deal that stores have worked out with the soft drink manufacturers to keep themselves in the loop.
