Do you have any idea why my rose bushes are dying?

“Great Question” (1points)

At the side of the house I have an OLD rosebush/honeysuckle cluster bush. It was obviously old even when I bought the house in 99. However, the rose bushes are dying off, but the honeysuckle is fine. I’ve checked for bind weed, there isn’t any. Any ideas, guys?

Maybe you should do some kind of evaluation of your soil…maybe the bushes themselves need more nourishment in their beds.

But they’ve been fine on their own for probably 30 years…

They may need fertilizer, every spring and summer.

I fertilized our knockout roses an hr ago!!! LOL Hope it works!
I think u should prune them when they’re dormant? Or buy rose food like I did. (;

Maybe a fungus?

I wish I had an answer but the only flowers I can try to grow are of artificial origin :/

Roses get all sorts of nasty viruses and other diseases. I’d take a sample to a local garden center or horticulturalist and see if they can help you.

Do they get old and die? I’ve read of other shrubs and trees that have lifespans.

I agree with @MyNewtBoobs and @crisw, roses are susceptible to a lot of diseases.. especially fungus.

The roses are dying now?

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Yeah…we had a freeze a few weeks ago and it seems like it started then. I just noticed it fully when I realized the honeysuckle is growing…and the roses aren’t.

I saw the disease answers, and thought that could be an issue but the timing is all off. Most of the disease problems hit in warm weather. What is the plant looking like?
