What is the actual purpose of Fluther?

“Great Question” (2points)

I love coming to fluther everyday and asking questions and getting helpful answers from everyone, but when ever I tell my friends about it, they’ve never heard of it! So I just wanted to ask, what is the main purpose of this website? How do you become a moderater? What is this type of website called?

I love it though!

The purpose of the site is to provide helpful answers to questions.
The moderators are volunteers from the Fluther community who want to make things better.
This website is called a Q&A (question and answer) site.
The answer to all your question(s) can be found here.

Welcome to Fluther.

To become a jelly forever in the land of lurve, frizzers, and pancakes.

Also, to ask questions.

The main purpose of the website is to get answers to your serious questions, get jokes about food and boobies to your less than serious questions, and basically to mix and mingle with a group of wonderful people.

You become a moderator by bribing the founders with pancakes and guacamole. Not necessarily eaten together, just pancakes and guacamole in general.

This type of website is called “special” because there’s no other website quite like Fluther.

Welcome. Just be warned: we’re all a little crazy here, please try to fit in. =0)

To provide you with an addiction that isn’t drugs, and help you waste time. True story

“The Answer” is always 42, or simply for entertainment and enjoyment of jellies.

To put reference librarians out of business.
Not really but that might be a side effect.
I think it’s to help each other, in many ways.

OK, so I’ve just been combing through the Fluther archives to sleuth out the answer to your question. After running thousands of Fluther answers through a decryption program designed to extract patterns from seemingly random data, the following messages repeatedly emerged:

-There is no God.

-If it hurts, ask your doctor/vet.

-He’s probably staring at you because he likes you.

These themes then seem to be at the heart of the Fluther mission. Pretty much every thing else is, I suspect, just camouflage to conceal the main agenda.

@thorninmud Also: Do you own damn homework!!!

@thorninmud Hmm, these answers don’t show up?
– Dreams have no real life meaning
– Do your own homework

Here is what I suspect: Fluther is an internet site made up of a core of individuals that love to learn and to share information. It provides a venue for helping people with the questions that they may fear asking their day-to-day friends without having to live with everlasting judgement.

We’re a question & answer site, with the purpose of gaining and spreading knowledge on all sorts of topics. As a byproduct, we serve a social niche as well. Welcome!

Mods are recruited from our active members. When we need new mods, we look for people who’ve been here a while, have an even temperament (read: can keep their cool), and are fair-minded. Sometimes, we look for people from a particular time-zone to cover a needed time slot.

@augustlan is correct, of course, but I’m with @Tropical_Willie – and always bring a towel.
