I’ll be up at the usual time to get to 9:15 Mass. The Mass is shorter on Easter because there are so many people there, they have to get the cars in and out of the parking lot.
I wish I was back home with Mom and Dad and the siblings. We each had an Easter basket that was put out at night, and they would be magically filled with candy and hidden in the house. The goal was to find your own basket before church and taunt the brother or sister whose basket you found before they did. Dad was quite brilliant when it came to the locations he chose and as we aged.
@JLeslie Yes I hide the plastic ones filled with cash and goodies as soon as oldest gets off the damn computer and goes to bed! My kids are ½ Jewish and get to celebrate all the great feasting holidays!
I actually went to the neighborhood easter egg hunt as a child, and we dyed eggs at home. But, no Christmas Tree. Chocolate bunnies and eggs fine, decorated trees no good. Totally illogical
@ANef_is_Enuf When you are a Jewish kid, especially 30 years ago, it does seem like the Christians get the fun stuff. Santa, lights, trees…
Jews are more serious about their holidays. Reading from a book while you’re starving to eat. No surprise gifts under a tree. No cartoons for weeks about the upcomng holiday. It’s changing though. We are catching up with the commercialization.
@Cruiser It’s 8 (come on now, 4 day journey to get the oil, and 4 day journey back).
That Chanukah gift thing started to compete with Christmas. Chanukah wasn’t a gift giving holiday. I got some gifts when I was little. Later just gelt from everyone. Not that I’m complaining. Still, no Santa magic.
