A system look around for a bundle deal and ask for something extra. Used paddle, game 2 for 1 anything. Personally I buy used, reconditioned all the time. If it works for 30 days it works. I’ve taken a reconditioned unit back because I was dissatisfied and they knowingly replaced with new. It was a ps1 and I think the cd door was jiggly after two days use. No problem w/ returns as long as your not committing fraud. Save your money check out a discount program like gamepro mag.

Yeah, I agree. If you want to play PS2 games on your PS3, then try to find one of the original PS2 systems when it was first launched. If not, then it really doesn’t matter. The only difference is the size of the hard disk, which only really matters if you want to load it up with tons of MP3s and downloaded content from the Playstation Store. If most of the games you play are on CD, you’ll be fine with any version.

Are the old ones reliable, or were they retired for hardware/software issues?

@cockswain :: I might be wrong wrong here but I don’t think they ever had real issues with reliability. It was the XBOX360 that managed to die a lot.

They are actually bringing out many of the old ps2 games for ps3. Down-loadable from the playstation store. They have some good ps3 bundles with the move for sale now at gamestop and wal-mart..

It’s weird. I looked into this a bit yesterday and saw I can get a backward compatible PS3 for about $250—$300, refurbished. New ones can be $600, but on Amazon I saw a couple going for $3000—$4000. Pretty unreal.

Still not sure what to do, but I’m leaning towards getting the 60gb one.

Good time to buy. With the network issues I know a lot of people are ditching their PS3s now and selling them cheap to buy something more reliable and less likely to compromise their credit card info.
