As for your question as to ‘Why not?’, I suppose the answer is that I am not a proponent of ‘An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth’. In Bin Laden’s case, there is no doubt that he was involved in terrorist attacks and that it was highly unlikely to end while he was alive.
Now that he is dead, the strategies on all sides will have to change. For the US, as well as other countries, there may be a temporary sigh of relief, but it would be foolish to let down our guard. Had he been captured and taken to any country alive, it is likely that it would have resulted in execution without an apology or regret for his actions. It would also leave a country more vulnerable to more terrorist threats and attacks than we are currently under in this situation.
PS, your answer is not worthless. Many people feel the same way that you do. IMO, it is a knee-jerk reaction based upon what tugs at our hearts. This is a time where logic needs to take the driver’s seat in looking at the situation from all angles.
