Sure. It will just give your dish more color and maybe a little more taste.

Yes if you don’t mind a stronger onion flavor and the possibilty of a darker colored dish.
As the Wiser lady said, red onions will put much more of a strong onion-y flavor to your dish.
If you don’t want too much of the onion flavor, start with half or one third of the onion and taste before adding any more.

I love red onions, and will use them in just about anything. Yum.
