Yes, I definitley am. My first wish in life that I am set to obtain is to travel and see the world.
Life’s too short to spend it all at home. I hope I can get my dream one day… just gotta save a lot of money over the next few years…

Oh yeah, I love exploring new place, cities or tropical places! Give me some place new and I will happily explore it, even by myself like I did Paris and London. I have no problem just make a plan in the morning before I leave and head out for the day to all the places I want to see.

Every trip I ever take, I am exploring. If I had the money, I would spend the rest of my life exploring the world.

I am an explorer. I prefer loop trails to going on a trail and returning on the same trail.

@Russell_D_SpacePoet No doubt. We have exactly the same intention based on your post. I would explore 10 months in a year if I have the money and would prefer to stay in one place for 3 months at least before I move to the next one. Same with you?

There are many careers in the hotel and travel industries that pay their employees to travel. I was a hotel inspector for five years, and it was wonderful to get paid to go explore new areas all over North America.

@queenie The company has hotels world-wide, and having an inspector based in the UK would be an ideal location.

I am, shame i’ve got no sense of direction then. I basically walk the earth like him out of Kung Fu! More or less like a blinfolded one legged donkey. Hey, it’s a hobby!

Yessssss.. Exploration is my calling; I should have been born about 150 years ago, when there were still frontiers and wilderness to chart and explore. I love adventure and I love new stuff, which basically means I am hard-wired to go out and try it all out first-hand.

You need money to travel far, this is true.. but you do NOT need money to explore. You’d be surprised what’s around you, that you may never have noticed or thought of before.

Oh, sure. I was able to do a little of that in Australia and the Caribbean, but not much. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to my next travel adventure.

Thus far, I think for me, the last frontier of where I am now is the Bronx. I’ve only been to the Botanical Gardens there.

Yes. I like to imagine that I am a tourist in my own city and that I am a local in strange (new) places.

Not explorer so much as visitor. I like to visit places that are new to me, but not places where no one has ever been.

I have always been intrigued by curiosity about what’s around the corner, or over the next ridge. Some of my most memorable moments have involved travel. There is so much more that I want to see.

Yes! First real exploration with no planned itinerary was 3 months on a motor scooter in Europe. Camped all the way except for when I slept on the floor of a dentist’s office in Athens.

I’d get a kick out of exploring abandoned towns or villages. I used to love checking out abandoned and boarded up houses, buildings or factories when I was younger. Imagine a whole town for me to explore, that would rock.

@Symbeline check it out! I find that stuff endlessly fascinating. I’m much more involved when exploring what was left behind by people than natural settings (though that’s good too). Maybe I’m more of an an archeologist than an explorer.

@Blueroses Yeah, same here, man made things seem a lot more interesting to me than natural places. There’s always some weird feeling when you’re checking out an old place, like you can feel the history or some corny shit like that.
I love the rule on the site; take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints. Interesting site. This could be worth joining…

@mazingerz88 2 or 3 months per place would be pretty good. Gives you enough time to actually get a feel for the vibe of a place.

@Russell_D_SpacePoet That’s it exactly. That short story by Somerset Maugham entitled The Lotus Eater somewhat cemented my desire to do it this way. Imagine living in the Amazon rainforest for that long or Florence in Italy.

The explorer in me made me dislike my job as a travel agent ( believe it or not). Everyone wanted to visit Cancun, Vegas or go on a cruise. I wanted to suggest a road trip to sites seldom seen.

I hate touristy locations. I’d much rather travel to isolated locations in the United States and hike for hours. I love being where there are few people and feel as if I’ve been the first to step foot in that location.

Yup yup! I’ve done local exploring since I’m into urban and trail hiking. But I’d love to explore exotic places when my kids are bit older and I can be away for longer periods.
