How excited are you for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword?

“Great Question” (2points)

The game is coming out at the end of this year. According to everyone who’s played it, the game features amazing 1 to 1 motion controls for the sword (and other items). So: real swordfights!

YES!

I am just about done Twilight Princess now. Not bad. :)

I was very disappointed in Twilight Princess (even though it was a great game). It was really just a swan song on the formula established by Ocarina of Time. There wasn’t much new to it, and the Wii swordfighting was obviously tacked on. Skyward Sword seems like the game I was hoping Twilight Princess would be.

This is new news to me, but I’m excited now!! :D

I bought Twilight Princess around Christmas time but haven’t had the chance to play it yet (busy with life). Seeing the promos maybe I should have just waited for this one to come out.

Played all the other Zelda games from the beginning, so I am hooked and will undoubtedly play this one as well! Like the idea of real sword action—less likely to make me look like an idiot in my living room . . .

Qingu's avatar

Actually I think it’s probably a lot more likely to make you look like an idiot. Unless madly swinging your arm around to play games has gotten more cool recently. :)

God I can’t wait. I am so excited about it that I make myself not think about it or else I just about can’t handle it!

I’ve been waiting since LOZ:OoT I’m sorry but Twilight Princess was just OK to me. I felt like it was such a CHORE to play through when Link was that dumb wolf.

Yeah, I haven’t been this excited about a game since Ocarina of Time.

My favorite moment of any videogame is from OoT: the first time you fight a Stalfos in the Forest Temple. It was the first really intense swordfight in that game; you have to block with your shield and circle around the Stalfos and time your strikes just right. And it was totally friggin’ rad, because it was (for me at least) the moment when it really sunk in that “I’m playing a 3-D game.” You couldn’t have a sword fight like that in a 2-D game. It was totally unlike anything that came before.

Every Zelda game since has just been an elaboration on OoT’s gameplay. The action and graphics got incrementally improved, but there was nothing really different or innovative—when innovation was the whole reason Ocarina of Time was such a great game.

All I’ve ever wanted is to have one-to-one swordfights with the Wiimote in a Zelda game. The only thing I’ve wanted more is a Zelda game with one-to-one swordfights where you also get to ride a bird or a dragon. And now my dreams are finally coming true!

And might I add, while I am truly anticipating this game, I have no expectations. . . I will NEVER trust Nintendo and Zelda after they pulled that stunt where they showed the infamous Link vs. Ganondorf battle to debut the GameCube and then replaced it with Wind Waker (although I was pleasantly surprised by Windwaker)

Qingu's avatar

I liked Wind Waker’s style better than the “realistic” TP graphics…

And really. Link vs. Ganon in WW was pretty friggin’ rad. Definitely my favorite Ganon (dual swords ftw!)

@Qingu Pointless swinging of arms is what we have now. My stellar swordplay will be a thing of magic, recognizable by all as I will tape my Wii controller to a sword (after putting the dogs outside).

Qingu's avatar

Yeah, good point. Once I practice I’m probably going to look badass playing this game.

Kayak8's avatar

@Qingu I plan to look as bad as any 50 year old woman in tights and a cape brandishing a sword in her living room while watching a television.

Qingu's avatar

But didn’t you hear?

Link ditched the tights in Skyward Sword! He’s rockin’ khakis now.

Kayak8's avatar

@Qingu Crap, that really lessens my excitement . . .

Qingu's avatar

Makes sense in context. Probably much greater risk of upskirt looks on a floating island.

Two weeks!

Stop it! I need to think about it as little as possible… OMG.

Done and I am in love. Miyamoto is a genius

The Imprisoned was a bit annoying (many different battles with him – including the ones to get the Hylian Shield). Silent realm (skyloft) was rough. Third time and I got it.

Most difficult boss for you?

Mariah's avatar

I also thought the Imprisoned was kind of hard because of how you have to beat him in a limited time; using a stamina potion made the difference for me. And I used guardian potions for the final Ghirahim and Demise battles, which made them pretty easy… I feel kind of cheap for doing that, so at some point I’m gonna re-fight them without potions.
