Yes, you are correct, kiss is x, hug is o.

X is traditionally used for a kiss. Thus, by elimination…

I always felt x was kiss, and o was hug, but it’s actually the opposite.
Which makes sense, since it is never oxox. X is always first. Hugs and kisses.

Yes, X for kiss which makes “xo” a ‘kiss and a hug’.

x for kisses since it looks like two people giving each other a little peck and o for hugs since it looks like this is what my arms have to go around ya fatty.

no way!!!
x is the crossing of arms.
o is the shape your lips make to kiss

zenvelo's avatar

The use of “x” to signify a kiss dates back to as early as 1765 .

Clearly you missed the “no way” part of my comment.

I’ve always thought they were punches and black eyes.
Sorry grandma…

I’ve always used x’s for kisses, as long as I can remember. I only encountered o’s as hugs once I got online.

X for kiss. Your lips actually make an x when pressed.
O for hug. Your arms connect around the body.

Always wondered about all that. Thought it was just a bunch of silly typos. But then I landed in this old ass thread because I thought it said bugs. So who am I to talk?
