All Republican fat cats.

The Pentagon needs to be stripped. If they stop Social Security and my mom ends up living with me I will be pissed.

But neither will happen. They will raise it.

But the Pentagon does need to be stripped and Social Security needs to be funded so my mom doesn’t hear me having sex.

cazzie's avatar

I don’t want @johnpowell mother to hear him having sex either, so I vote for big cuts in defence spending and the ‘War on Drugs’.

All the Armed Forces need to be brought back to the Continental US from all the countries where they are stationed. All subsidies to business should be terminated. “Obamacare” should be eliminated. The unconstitutional “czars” should be fired. The department of Education should be eliminated.

That’s a good start. : ))

Please call your congressperson and tell them to fund Social Security.. Johnpowell’s mother doesn’t need to hear sex sounds, or even worse, johnpowell might hear his mother having sex if she picks someone up.

Imadethisupwithnoforethought's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe We should amend the constitution to penalize congress people with their mom hearing their sex sounds when they can’t agree.

If they would just get out of Afghanistan and Iraq, that would go a long way towards helping our expenditures. Can’t stand Haliburton. We should quit doing business with them.

We should stop sending “aid” to countries like India and China. It’s ignorant to keep pretending that we need to help save these countries when we can’t save our own.

BTW, if you are less than age 50, wake up and stop saying things like “I don’t expect social security to be around when I retire.” Take a look at your paycheck – do you really want to be giving all that money up for nothing? You’re going to need that money to supplement your 401k, don’t fool yourself and think the $1,200/mo you get from social security won’t be important.

Let’s de-fund BATFE. They aren’t doing anything that the state police and FBI can’t do. It’s a giant multi tentacled monster that has now declared war with Mexico by shipping 1000’s of weapons there without telling them. It is an act of war. What else would you call it?
Stop Eric Holders money too because he was in on it. Why can’t this country get an ethical Atty General, why?

Welfare and Medicare scammers, spongers, and cheats! That would save us billions a month.

ragingloli's avatar

You could cut defense spending to that of Russia, which is at roughly 50 billion a year. You would save 630 billion per year.
Eliminate “homeland defense”. And corporate subsidies.
That is before you even get to close the tax loopholes and reinstate appropriate corporate tax rates and tax rates for the rich.

Of course, you all know there’s no need to worry with an honest guy like Boner in office. It’s so nice to have such a virtuous, tanned American speaking on my behalf.

Congress, let them eat cake.

I like @CaptainHarley ‘s list and would add the president as well as congress. The ATF was another good one as well as the entire Justice Department. Truth is once they get through SS, payment on the debt, and military salaries, what ever is left will likely evaporate like most of the money going to Washington does..

incendiary_dan's avatar

The politicians.

How about we start out by just going into every federal office from the top down and saying “eenie meenie miney moe” and every Moe gets fired (not that I have anything against Moe, he was one of my favorite Stooges, really)

THEN, take a certain population of the people left with jobs and make their salaries based on the dollar amount of money they save the government in reducing wasteful spending.

Eliminate programs that are duplicative efforts
Eliminate outdated programs
Sell off unused vacant properties held by the federal government to private industry
Audit government credit card purchases CLOSELY…
Eliminate Subsidies to businesses that make over a certain dollar amount profit a year should be terminated. Farm subsidies to mom and pop operations are near and dear to my heart.. I’d hate to see them go)
Eliminate earmarks

Procurement in the department of the defense has been out of hand for years… its’ the old adage about the $1200 toilet seat and the $500 nail… well, its’ no joke. My mother worked for the dod years ago, she worked in contracts and the amount of money the government spends on uniforms and supplies for the military is probably about 20–50X what anyone else in the private sector would have to pay to buy in such large quantities.

Something has to be done… if for no other reason than for Johnpowell’s sake!

End Corporate Welfare. End Oil Subsidies. Get Corporations responsible for ecological disasters to fund cleanup and other environmental protections. End the War On Drugs. Regulate and tax recreational drugs. Close down Homeland Security. Recall troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. Remove Halliburton and Blackwater and other corporations connected with their investors from all government contracts. Reduce military spending.

cazzie's avatar

Lets ALSO get rid of corn subsidies. Talk about a waste of money. Grow some REAL food, already.

I love all the answers, But what I most wanted to know was, Who should NOT get a check come September?

CaptainHarley's avatar

You want NAMES???

Judi's avatar

@CaptainHarley ; at least names of companies. Should they stop sending checks to Social security recipients or they guy who supplies the toilet paper in the federal buildings?
I heard on the news that it would be the president and the treasury secretary who would decide who gets checks and who doesn’t, so I just wondered who should NOT get their checks. Who do we give all that money to that can afford to forgo their check for a few months?

woodcutter's avatar

There’s about a hundred packed into one building that would be a good start, see how they like it, and 435 in another building that would do well to do without.

CaptainHarley's avatar

@Judi Sorry, but I don’t know enough about the inner workings of DC to be able to do that fairly.

JLeslie's avatar

Does the federal government pay our congressmen? We could start there?

dabbler's avatar

@incendiary_dan the poet puts it succinctly : “the politicians”. Totally.
Unfortunately, with only a few exceptions, their salaries are dwarfed by their K Street kickbacks so that might not be very motivating.
Certainly should have taken away their cherry health care plans a long time ago to put them in the same shoes as their constituents.

I’d back @ragingloli‘s list too especially “corporate subsidies”,

@NuGoonie23 couldn’t have said it any better

cazzie's avatar

Wouldn´t it be great if people just stopped signing up for the armed forces in the US? That would save precious lives (and money, and I don´t mean their pittance pay, but the whole machine that surrounds it…)

cletrans2col's avatar

@cazzie No, because we would not have anyone to protect us.

Judi's avatar

If everyone stopped volunteering they would institute a draft.

Strauss's avatar

I think the question should not be who the government should not pay, bit rather, where should the government find revenue?
