You would have to show proof that you were living/working elsewhere at the specified time.

But why would someone want to put you in a specific place at a given time?

Anyway you just need to show them you were elsewhere like people above said.

Credible witnesses who can attest to you not ever being there is all I can think of!

I had to do this with a local tax agency. I had filed for the first time in that area, and they then asked for information for the previous year. I sent them copies of my W-2 from my employer in Georgia.

Basic logic 101: You cannot prove a negative.

Basic law 101: The burden of proof is on the accuser, not the accused. Innocent until proven guilty.

No one should ever have to prove that they didn’t do something. It’s up to others to prove that you did. If they can’t, then your good word stands above their unsupportable accusations and presumptions.

What @RealEyesRealizeRealLies said. You can offer an alternative theory—that you were somewhere else. This is commonly called an alibi. There are a gazillion ways to show you were someplace. Surveillance cameras, witnesses, job records, and on and on.

Show proof you were somewhere else.
