The Eagles’ Hell Freezes Over concert was probably the favorite. Getting to see Paul McCartney and Wings live is something I’ll never regret.

I’d love to have seen pink floyd though, when I was seventeen…;) ;)

Foghat. The band kicked Security out and played until the beer, the drugs and the weed were all gone. The 2 hour concert turned into a 10 hour marathon. There were hundreds of empty coolers stacked in front of the stage when we left in the morning.

They played every song they knew and some they played 2–3 times.

The best concert I’ve been to was Passion Pit. My friends and I were trying to get in but the people at the gate were only letting in people who had orange arm bands, and you could only get those arm bands if you were a student at the big state university (which none of us are).

We backed off and thought about climbing the fence (there were literally thousands of people there, and we figured we could blend in) but then we decided it wasn’t worth the risk. In a flash of genius, one of my friends decided that we should see if we could get some armbands from people who were leaving. Flogging Molly had played previously, and a bunch of frat boys and their girlfriends who had went to see them were leaving because they didn’t want to hear that “hipster shit” that Passion Pit was playing. Capitalizing on this, we offered a pack of gum to some guys and girls in exchange for their wrist bands. They obliged (though the girl had a minor freakout when I pulled out my knife to cut off the bands). We tied the orange bands to our wrists using hair ties and got in the show.

The concert was awesome. The crowd was passing around beach balls and tons of people had glowsticks and such. I even started the chant for “Sleepyhead” when the band was getting ready to leave. Lo and behold, they came back on stage and played Sleepyhead. It was great.

Another cool concert I’ve been to was to see Mark Knopfler play at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

I have been to a lot of concerts and really, I have liked pretty well all of them. I don’t have a favourite. Loved Elton John, loved seeing the Rolling Stones, The Police, R.E.M were fantastic, U2, saw The Doobie Bros this year and they were great, Carole King and James Taylor was really cheap and a great night, Billy Joel… honestly, I may not like the support act and there may be some bands where I thought the concert was a bit short, but I have really enjoyed all the concerts I have been to.

They were great @KatetheGreat. I have always liked their music but my husband didn’t really fancy going and I dragged him along and he loved the concert. Was a really good one.

I have also seen Eric Clapton (brilliant) and Mark Knopfler (amazing) and Tommy Emmanuel (do you know him? He is a brilliant, brilliant guitarist). One of my favourite Emmanuel pieces Link

I saw a Sting concert too where he was playing a lute, that was really nice. I could just about have reached out and touched him. It was a very small venue.

@Bellatrix Oh yes, I love Sting. You see, most of the people older than I have gotten to see the most amazing bands in their prime. I’m completely jealous.

Elton John once toured with just a percussionist. He was remarkable.

Ozzy is always awesome, but a band that really impressed me was W.A.S.P. They kicked ass.

Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Diana Ross & the Supremes, Smokey and The Miracles, Marvin Gaye…all in one show.

I’d say the first Lollapalooza in 1991. It was the first concert my husband and I attended together. We had just started dating. Jane’s Addiction is my favorite band, ever. Ice T and Body Count was pretty amazing too. Especially when Ice T and Perry Farrell played this song NSFW

Lollapalooza in 1993 is a very close second. Primus, Alice In Chains, Rage Against The Machine, Tool, Fishbone. What a great day that was.

Tom Petty always put on a hell of a show, and I was very surprised by how awesome Panic! at the Disco was in concert. Nothing, however, has trumped seeing Roger Waters’ The Wall Live. He sounded just like he did on the album, was backed by a great band, and the theatrics were terrific. It was how I’d always imagined The Wall being performed.

@jonsblond Nikki and I saw Perry at Lolla a few years ago. Probably the best part of the whole festival. Tool played, too, but, we were so far back. Still, the sound was amazing. We were up near the stage for Jane’s.

@blueiiznh very jealous We really wanted to see the show in 1992 but I was 8 or 9 months pregnant. We went in 91, 93, 94 and 96. 92 would have been awesome. Our favorite bands were in that lineup that year.

Atmosphere – they’re awesome. The set was beautiful, the lighting was subtle but incredible, it was outdoors at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley on a gorgeous evening, everyone was chill and nice, Slug was hilarious/brilliant/amazing.
Runner up: Avett Brothers. :)

Navy Jazz Band gives a pretty good concert too. But I may be prejudiced as my cousin and his wife both were in it.

@jaytkay Do you have to be a nerd to prefer classical music? If so, you may count me among the number. I suppose jazz makes you unhip too?

My most momentous concert was singing Mahler’s Eighth Sympphony with the San Francisco Symphony. It involved the orchestra, the Symphony chorus and 3 other choruses including mine. Being in the midst of all that glorious sound was incredible. Towards the end I felt like I was lifted up in the air and slowly twisted around surrounded by angelic voices. And I got to do that 4 nights in a row. What a high!

Small venue concerts are great too. I say Ministry and was close enough to Al Jourgensen that his sweat was falling on all of us next to the stage. ewww, gross, I know, but so cool too.

Jon and I also got to see Smashing Pumpkins at the Madison Theater in Peoria, IL. I think I prefer this type of show to a large arena.

Foxy Shazam, Peachcake, Rancid, Street Dogs, and of Montreal put on the best shows. Foxy is just all kinds of ridiculous. Peachcake are the sweetest guys in the world and had the audience build a sheet fort to dance under. Rancid and Street Dogs just put on really great shows – perfect stage presence, lots of energy, usually gets a good crowd. of Montreal is like going to a theatre performance. The first time I saw them, I left covered in glitter, feathers, and red paint, and I’d been fed fruit from people in catsuits and gold buddhas.
Mystic Valley Band, Monsters of Folk, Adam Green, and My Chemical Romance were ‘best concerts’ in that not only do they put on a great show, but they’re also just my favourite bands in general. I went out of state to see Adam Green (Ohio) and Monsters of Folk (Texas) and it was completely worth it. MOF didn’t have any opening acts and just played for over two hours. Adam Green played a really small place and I was basically standing on eye level with him right in front of him and he was hilarious and is basically my favourite person in the world. My Chem has been good almost every time I’ve seen them, big venues or small. They make the small venues feel huge and the huge venues feel cozy.

Frank Zappa the year I did stage crew for him, next would be SRV then Rory Gallagher, then the night Clapton made a surprise visit to the Cubby Bear after his big concert in town…..too many to list.

jaytkay, that was an awesome time to live back then. All of the artists were just getting their start in rock and roll music. I remember Chuck Berry singing Johnny Be Goode and doing his famous “duck walk” on stage. I also remember the Big Bopper was also on the showtime lineup. Good memories.

Santana is one of my favorites to see live.

Seeing Barbra Streisand was a dream come true and that was by far the happiest I have ever felt at a concert. She didn’t dissapoint at all.
I have seen Cher three times and every time I was amazed at how in awe of this woman I am. Her concerts are fun, artistic and camp. I love that.
The most pleasant surprise at a concert was when my dad dragged me to see Barry Manilow about seven years ago. I have been a fan ever since I’m even going to see him in Vegas next month!

I’m glad I wasn’t at the ‘Guns and Roses’ concert in Dublin there about two years ago…everyone was left waiting for hours and hours, and when Axel finally arrived, people were throwing opened bottles of ‘unidentified liquids’. Wonder what it was…
