I like them. They always seem like real money to me. I still miss silver coins that were really silver (and had beautiful designs, too). But even now they seem to have some inherent value, unlike the paper, which is worth something only by common consent and government decree.
They’ll also hold up longer in some museum of the future. I think it is fascinating to see an ancient Greek or Roman coin in a display case and understand that somebody was spending that very piece in the market when Alexander the Great’s father was king of Macedonia.
The loose change in coat pockets and the bottoms of old purses has saved me more than once when I was broke.
I think a brand new, shiny, uncirculated copper penny is beautiful.
