How did you endure 12 weeks of morning sickness?

I am seven weeks along and just started having morning sickness about a week ago. I pretty much always feel like I am going to throw up and I do vomit on average 1–2 times per day. My doc says this is normal and she would not recommend drugs. She gave me b6. Iam not looking for remedies here unless you have the perfect thing that made you feel significantly better. I am wondering how you got through feeling bad for almost 3 months. I have never had a chronic ailment last this long so I don’t really have a precedent.

Yep, they always talk about that pregnant glow. What they fail to tell you is that glow is bright green.

It’s almost as bad on the spouse, though. Being guys, it is in our nature to believe our function is to be able to fix whatever isn’t working right. Alas, when it comes to our pregnant wives we are forced come to the unavoidable realization that we are utterly helpless to do anything to make everything OK.

Well, at least we can hold your hair back for you while you puke… ;)

I was sick every single day with my two, and worked full time. I visited the rest room as often as necessary. I was a bookkeeper, so didn’t have to interact with anyone.

My daughter in law had to go to the hospital twice for dehydration because she was so sick. They kept her an entire week.

I’ve never been pregnant but I recently experienced nausea and dry heaves every day for about a month (due to a bad reaction to surgery). What helped me get over the queasy mindset that I had understandably developed towards food was an appetite stimulant called periactin. I no longer felt disgusted by everything. It is just an antihistimine so there are few or no side effects. But I have no idea if it’s safe with pregnancy so definitely do some research and ask your doctor if you want to go this route.

First, you may not have 3 mos of morning sickness. It could “go away” at anytime. I second the usage of B6. I used the pills, the liquid and the lollipops.

I had one long 6mos migraine with chronic insomnia. I did throw up a bit in the first trimester. However, I self-medicated with carbs in the AM at my bedside, and a small amount of carbs each hour of the day. It prevented most of the vomiting.

What I thought about it while getting through each day was: It could be worse. I could have been on bed-rest or in the hospital for complications. I got to go about my business.

Ahh that’s a really tough one. I had terrible morning sickness and found a couple things that really kinda helped. I would usually vomit right after brushing my teeth – I switched my toothpaste to that Tom’s of Maine clover one. The mint was terrible for my nausea (no clue why) I bought preggo pops – the suckers they sell at baby stores. They helped a little but they’re really sour. I would sip ginger ale and eat crackers. I eventually had to be put on Zofran but those things might help. It seemed to me as if smell was a huge trigger for me so I avoided perfume and heavy smells. It’s hard though. Also, congrats :)

Oh, I really feel for you. I was sick around the clock for 2 full months and the only thing I could hold somewhat ok was grape juice and even then I remember trying to suppress vomiting as I ran to the bathroom and grapejuice shooting out between my fingers and spraying the white walls. Not easy to clean.
Avoid smelly things and try some anise tea. Anise tea is great for upset stomaches. I used it for my son who was colic the first 3 months. By the 3rd month my mom told me to try it and it worked to calm his stomach so he could drink his milk without vomiting.
As with anything read about anise before taking it. Most sites say its pretty safe for pregnancy. But be sure or at least ask your doctor.
The worse it gets the hungrier you will feel and the gassier you will get because your stomach is empty. You may not feel like it but try to at least munch on crackers and eat some fruits that are hardy. Like a mango or apples. Avoid greasy, or gassy food, like beans.
Good luck. Just remember this will pass, and the end results is so worth the trouble.
I still use it today whenever my stomach doesn’t feel well.

You have my sympathy to. I was sick 9 months long, untill the day I had to go to the hospital to deliver my baby’s. The thing that helped for me was a dry cracker. Nibbling that away really helped. You can put a packet of crackers on the nightstand and eat one or two before getting up. Eating six smaller meals instead of three also helps a lot. Include foods high in carbohydrates and protein, which helps to fight nausea. Skip meals are unnecessary en not to good. Don’t forget to drink a lot, but never to drink while you are eating. And avoid foods with strong smells. For me I survived on cold food because warm meals where untenable. There smell was to strong. Anyway, good luck, you will forget all this inconvenience when you have the end result in your arms :)
