It’s only around a 5.9 earthquake. It was felt remarkably long ways away. From New Hampshire to Toronto to Ohio and Boston, NYC, Philly, etc. I don’t know how far South it was felt—certainly the Carolinas.
I was sitting on a bench outside, eating my pizza when I started feeling a little woozy. I was wondering if it was a side effect from my meds—I often feel that way when I suddenly bend over. It feels like the earth is shaking under my feel. Turns out it was!
It felt like a small oscillation—maybe in a figure 8. I thought it was in my head, but then I heard the folks at the table next to me talking about it, so I realized it was real and told them it was an earthquake.
In the East, earthquakes are very rare, so even with such a small tremblor, people pile out of the buildings. It sounds like it felt stronger in NYC than in Philly. I guess the waves travel at different amplitudes in different places.
From what the Times says, there were no injuries and no damage reported, so far, near the epicenter. It was a little excitement, which will be made into a huge fuss, but our friends in California will be snickering at us.
