I might be going out of town this weekend, and even if the update comes out this week, it might be good to have us all play with it a little if we’re going to do it on a sunday/weekend.

No need to postpone just for me, but 2 weeks from now seems like a pretty good time anyway.

Therefore, the only limitation, so far, is 1–3 PM eastern on sundays, which means 7–10PM here, which would be perfect, for us at GMT +1 (Or at least most of us, i would wager).

I would suggest we save the date of september 18, or september 11, whichcever is best for you all (I’m unsure whether i will be free for the 18th but i will try my hardest.)

I was thinking about this today… should we go ahead and come up with some ideas about what kinds of work we will do to establish our initial base?

Like, one of us focuses on tool making, someone else focuses on gathering wood and stone, someone else on making the fuck sure that Enderman doesn’t eat us, and so on…

I’ll be responsible for spawning rare resources like Slime and I’ll provide some pumpkins as well (IIRC they can protect us from the endermen).

I vote the 18th for the party. That way, even if 1.8 comes out this week or next week we might have a stable build or have a little bit of time learning the mechanics first.

This would be great! Different time zones, though, make things challenging… I actually enjot the building aspects more than survival, but it’s all fun. Weekends would be a must for me. A personal request, don’t have spawn be in a snowy biome, if possible. I live in an Eastern Standard Time area, and anytime from about 12:00 noon to 7 or 8 p.m. would work. Don’t work your schedule around me, though. Skype sounds fun as well, although my parents don’t like me interacting with you guys. They’re afraid of internet stalkers. I’m sure talking to you would give them a hear attack. Hm. I’ll try.

Here’s a question: If one of us finds an NPC village, what do we do with it?

As far as Skype goes, it could be good, even if you don’t necessarily talk. I’ve always just found voice chat more convenient than lots of chat conversations going on at once.

@dverhey Crashoverride, Pollonet and raistlin (who has been whitelisted yesterday) I know IRL, and seem all very enthusiastic, both of the idea and the fact that we’re doing it at a time they can attend.

As for skyping with us, they’re not all that proficient with spoken english, so i’m not sure if they will want to participate, except maybe Crash, who’s the best at it (except for me, that is).

Since now shears are mandatory to get wool, which we need for beds, we need some people to focus on gathering wood to make houses and tools, while others will split from that group and build a mining shaft after they have the necessary materials, then we need someone to gather food and deliver it to those in the mine shaft and the builders.

In short, at the very least we need:

1) Wood gatherers/house builders (They should build the first house out of wood, then focus on making tools, chests and torches until better materials are gathered)
2) Miners
3) Hunters/Gatherers
4) (Optional) Sand gatherers (For glass)

After we’re done making the encampment we should split in parties and go explore… possibly with maps.

@Thammuz Alright, sounds good. Even if they can’t speak it very well it’d still be good to get them in there lurking just so we wouldn’t have to convey messages to them via chat if Skype ends up being the primary conversation tool.

So are we pretty set on Sunday the 18th?

…so I have been playing the 1.8 pre-release on single player, and I must say, the new features are awesome. Especially abandoned mineshafts and underground ravines. Oh, and I fought off five endermen yesterday. :D

Unrelated but funny: I’m in the office playing with the Pre-release (nothing to do, waiting for the boss to come back to me on something), I finish setting everything up and create a new world. I spawn on an island. No trees. No land in sight. I had to swim beyond the orizon to get to somewhere where i could find a tree. This game does not fuck around.

Related: After playing the new pre release, i have to say: assuming they balance the cave spiders, making them less damaging or allowing to create an antidote for the poison, we should really set the difficulty to hard.

With all the new features, (blocking, sprint attacks, charged arrows etcetera) it makes fighting monsters very easy, making even creepers easily manageable in melee combat (which is good because for some reason i can’t find feathers anywhere).

@jellyfish3232 Well the plan, as I intended it, was to all start together the 18th and use the fact that we were all together to quickly arrange the basic infrastructure… You know, a small city, like the Romans did. and then start exploring in groups.

I was actually just resurrected recently. But I’m assuming we’re talking about September 18th, which I have clearly missed. For this, I apologize. And as to these questions:

1) Sure, why not. I’ve improved my Tree of Plenty design anyway :D
2) Preferably yes. I like to be able to see other people and maybe collaborate with them, not walk a day’s journey to say hi to my neighbor.
2b) (in case this still applies) I am currently residing within US Eastern Time. I am free before Noon and after 4 on Fridays, virtually anytime on Saturday, and Sundays before Noon. Most of the week I am on call for work, and I couldn’t guarantee reliability.

So here’s a question:
Would this be a Creative or Survival world we’re making? The nature of @Thammuz‘s question seems to say Survival, which I’m not sure about. I’ve currently been giving my full survival attention to SMP, and I’m not sure I could get invested in starting completely from scratch. But on the other point, why make a crazy-defensible city in a mode where there’s nothing to defend against. Ever since 1.8 came out, I am now of the opinion that a player’s worth should be measured in enderman pearls. So I guess I don’t really have a preferred type, but what are we thinking?

Also, I have been unable to re-access the server due to lag. I don’t know if it’s on my end or what, but I’ll keep trying to get back.

I noticed that as well. It’ll let me play for approximately 30 seconds, and then the lag will spike so high that the game almost completely freezes. My hypothesis is exp orbs. When I last logged on, the screen displayed the death notice. Now, I don’t recall dying, but it seems to have happened anyway. I noticed that the entire area surrounding my death was covered in dropped exp orbs; as they rendered, the lag spiked. I think there’s a plugin to disable them, though.

@Foolaholic Endermen are really damn easy to kill, though. I was expecting a lot more from them as hyped as they were.

As for me, I don’t think I’m gonna be able to join you guys because my laptop screen blacks out every time I play minecraft these days :-(

@Foolaholic @jellyfish3232 I can confirm the problem is because of EXP orbs. Luckily they do despawn after a while.

Also, yeah, endermen are pussies, and the whole “look at them and they kill you” is crap because a) you can lure them in all sorts of traps by exploiting that, b) they stand still and allow you to have the upper hand and c) the slightest lag means they don’t register the reticule being on them, which makes them dangerous only in SSP.

@Thammuz Then you must have a great many pearls, and therefore are worthy. I prefer to meet endermen on flat, unbroken terrain, as they have shown on many occasions the ability to teleport across great distances and impassable terrain.

Furthermore, I’m not sure how exp orbs are causing my problems. My lag spikes are admittedly similar to those that @jellyfish3232 is describing, but every time I check in, I’m standing in the middle of spawn town with no experience or mobs in sight.

As long a the chunk they’re in is loaded for you (if i recall it loads the 40 chunks closer to you, so it might very well be far and underground) you will experience the lag. I don’t know why you still experience the issue after all thi time, to me it took about 5–6 minutes to delete everything and reset.

If i recall (check on the wiki for actturacy) the 1.9 pre release fixes that. It also adds lots of bugs, so we’d have to be very careful if we want to update.

I got on today with no problem at all, and I was experiencing better several access than ever before. If you tinkered with something, @Michael_Huntington, then it totally worked.

Also, since I’m a mariner, I did a little sea-charting in my spare time, and boy did we find a big one. I left a couple copies of Map_0 in the chest by the message board, if anyone wants one.

Has anyone else had a problem connecting to the server? I’ve been having issues for a week now. Either there’s a communication error and I can’t get in, or I get in and it lags so horrendously that I have to force quit java. I don’t know if it’s a sever problem or my own connection, but I haven’t had any trouble with getting on the other server that I frequent, so I don’t think it’s me….

sorry mariner, I think it says on the blog. I died and the experience orbs cause horrid lag. We need a plugin to disable them, I;m working on collecting them though.
