There are varying intensities of food poisoning. I had a very severe case of food poisoning when I was in my early twenties. In hindsight, I should have been hospitalized. It was only the good health of my youth that allowed me to survive.
Symptoms: rapid and severe evacuation of all solids; extreme nausea; alternate chills and sweating (fever); weakness; faintness. Duration: symptoms lasted a week; weakness and general malaise lasted another two weeks.
I stress that this was a severe case, and several people who contracted it from the same restaurant were hospitalized.
The last solid I consumed before the onset was a mango, though the mango was not the cause. However, I could not eat a mango for almost three decades following the indicent.
