(NSFW) Did PETA get bought/conned by the adult entertainment industry?

“Great Question” (2points)

Edited: Why would it want to replace one problem with another? Here is the article.
Here is a part of it:
“PETA is extremely disingenuous,” said Jennifer Pozner, executive director of the New York-based advocacy group Women In Media & News. “They have consistently used active sexism as their marketing strategy to garner attention. Their use of sexism has gotten more extreme and more degrading.

“This may be in their minds the only thing left at their disposal to lower the bar,” she said.

….....Saving animals turns them on?

Okay, never mind they are opening a site just aimed at the people who use porn, not abandoning ”.org.” But still, it encourages porn, exchanging one problem with another.

@flo Really worse is that they promote sexism…but that’s another topic altogether I suppose.

flo's avatar

@SpatzieLover can you get into the detail please?

Save the porn puppies.

It sounds like in the name of protecting animals they’re going to pander to animal snuff film fetishists.

They are stark raving mad. It astounds me how many followers they have.

dappled_leaves's avatar

@rooeytoo It’s not really that surprising. People like to feel like they’re “saving” animals, and PETA says loudly that it does that. Most people won’t look closely enough at PETA’s history or agenda to realize that they are wackos.

Coloma's avatar

I don’t know how they reconcile capitalizing on one pain based industry in favor of another. Aaah, the humor of hypocrisy. ;-)

Some sort of twisted Robin Hood complex. lol

sinscriven's avatar

I don’t see how this is disingenuous. PeTA has never cared about humanity. So why would it be beneath them to take advantage of human nature to push an agenda?

Blueroses's avatar

They are a bunch of lunatics who inspire more backlash than actual aid. When I was working on a particularly nasty rescue case, even the hardcore animal rights activists wanted nothing to do with PETA. We were desperate and reached out to them anyway and got nothing but a packet of propoganda. They are a political party, not an aid organization and they’ll use any shock tactics they can think of to spread their agenda.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@Blueroses And when I had to reach out to PeTa, they ignored and deflected. The HSUS, on the other hand, sent a Regional Director to our Village meeting, and were preparing to go as far as needed to help us in our fight.

Any publicity good or bad is still publicity. That’s how they end up with a board here, see? If no one goes out of their way to talk about you, you’re irrelevant no matter how noble your cause is, no matter how righteous the battle you’re fighting. This is why politicians are such hypocritical whores.

flo's avatar

@mazingerz88 ”....you’re irrelevant no matter how noble your cause is, no matter how righteous the battle you’re fighting” That is what PETA would say. Is it notoriety or relevance we’re talking about?

Does anyone know the following website? I don’t know it.
http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

@flo – I hadn’t seen that particular website but I know the PETA is not a no kill organization. That in itself doesn’t bother me, there are way more animals than homes. But it is reprehensible that PETA represents itself in such a different light. I am sure they would lose a lot of contributors and advocates if that were common knowledge.

flo's avatar

@rooeytoo Yes lots of well meaning people support things without knowing the details.

PETA is against using seeing eye dogs? Is there cruelty there?

Re. how harmful pornography is:

How do I highlight Barry McDonal’s response to John Santiago, in this:
here or if you get “page not found”

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-op-mcdonald-stagliano3-2008jul03,0,1018875.story

-here or if you get “page not found”

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-op-mcdonald-stagliano2-2008jul02,0,232441.story
sometimes the “here” link works sometimes it doesn’t. And it is not just now.
