I’ve just noticed yet another wonderful jelly has bit the dust! I haven’t talked to this jelly for a couple days, so I’m not exactly sure when the bail took place.

Some people get tired of the site and leave.
Some people get pissed and leave.
Some people leave and come back.
Some people leave and secretly come back.
Some people get kicked out (which you have to work pretty hard at, it doesn’t happen lightly).
Some people complain about what a terrible site it is, think that they shouldn’t have to follow the same rules that everyone else follow, get kicked out, and then keep coming back to complain about how terrible it is here (?).

Back when we were first given the option to “follow” I put a few users in “my Fluther”, until I decided that I didn’t like the popularity-contest-feel and stopped participating. I recently noticed that at least half of the members in my list are gone or are no longer active. It happens. It’s their prerogative.

@WillWorkForChocolate So that whole gang left together. As to why…who knows.

@syz I just went and cleaned out the followers that weren’t active anymore…looks like I’ll be doing that again.

I’m really depressed now. I used to randomly PM that jelly with drive-by huggings. This is upsetting.

Seems like an epidemic yeah, and it does make me sad, but peeps gotta do what they think be best for them.
As for people in general who have left in Fluther’s history…all personal reasons, even if some might seem similar.

I guess I have never felt the need, if I want to take a break, I just don’t show up for a while.
Closing your account seems so drastic and sudden.

To everyone who might intend on leaving, don’t delete your account. Just don’t show up. Deleting an account is absolute, so there is no way to ever come back to Fluther with that same name. If you ever decide to come back, you would have completely thrown away any credit associated with anything that your previous username did.

@PhiNotPi I’ve deleted my account two or three times when I felt I needed a break. You can get your account reinstated if you delete your account yourself and you haven’t been banned.

There are a lot that leave, and a lot (on this thread) who are OGs…As in, over 3 years with Fluther…I took a year and a half off, a much needed break to sort out personal/family issues. My belief is that those that leave and come back realize the value of the collective, while the whiners who leave and drag others down with them are often attention-seekers who just need to do their own thing, to the benefit of the collective. Times change, but the general vibe of the community is still here…take it from an “old” jelly ;)

People leave for a variety of reasons, and sometimes one person leaving spurs another to do the same. Don’t panic. :)
