How do I get my auto-finish turned back on when texting from my phone?

I have an LG Optimus, and recently it updated to Android 2.3. Since the update, I have no word “suggestions” when I try to text. I have scoured my phone for settings to fix it, but I can’t find anything. If I switch from the Android keyboard input to Swype it offers me word suggestions, but I much prefer to use the keyboard over Swype. Do I have to manually rebuild a user dictionary? Is this a known glitch, or are the settings carefully hidden away now? I can’t figure it out.

Ok. Try Settings> Language & keyboard> Touch Input> Text Input> Make sure Prediction, Word Completion, and Spell Correction are checked off.

Enter settings from the main screen? These categories do not exist. I can find settings, as well as language & keyboard.. but after that I can only choose to change between Swype and Android keyboard. As for my Android keyboard settings, I have touch to correct words, auto-capitalization, quick fixes, and show suggestions checked. I don’t have “auto-complete” checked, but the actual user dictionary only shows a couple of words. Useless words, like curse words and “xoxo.”
